Inked by Her: A Call to Archive the Artists Redrawing Indian Tattoo Culture

Inked by Her: A Call to Archive the Artists Redrawing Indian Tattoo Culture

Anomalie Tattoo Co. is launching the first-ever collective archive dedicated to the 100 women artists shaping India’s tattoo landscape.

At Anomalie Tattoo Co., our core mission has always been to celebrate the power of design that travels on skin. We translate art, emotion, and identity into collectible, wearable objects. Yet, the deepest source of our inspiration has always been tattooing itself—skin as canvas, art as intimacy, permanence as intent.

Today, we are proud to announce our most ambitious project to date:
100 Women Tattoo Artists of India—a landmark compendium that will stand as the first comprehensive archive of women redefining Indian tattoo culture.

For the purpose of this book, “Women” is defined inclusively, encompassing cis women, trans women, non-binary, and gender-diverse professional tattoo artists.

Why This Book. Why Now.

Tattooing in India is undergoing a quiet revolution. The industry is expanding beyond convention—embracing global influences alongside indigenous and personal visual languages. From hyper-realistic portraits and intricate fine-line work to bold, symbolic, and tribal-inspired styles, Indian tattoo culture is more diverse than ever.

At the forefront of this transformation are women artists—reshaping not just aesthetics, but authorship, studio culture, and the philosophy of tattooing itself.

This book is our commitment to documenting this moment as it unfolds. Not as trend, not as spectacle—but as archive. A visually rich, carefully designed volume that honours the voices, practices, and artistic legacies of women shaping tattoo culture in India today.

What the Feature Includes

We are inviting submissions from 100 practicing professional tattoo artists across India who identify as women or gender-diverse individuals.

Each selected artist will be featured in a dedicated two-page spread, thoughtfully designed to reflect both individuality and collective significance. Each feature will include:

  • Artist Portrait
A professional visual portrait of the artist behind the needle.

  • Art Showcase
A curated selection of your most representative tattoo work.

  • Philosophy & Practice
Insight into your artistic journey, influences, and personal tattoo language.

  • Studio & City
Acknowledgement of your location and the space where you practice.

  • Social & Contact Links
Direct pathways for discovery and connection.

The Collectible: Art That Travels on Skin

True to Anomalie’s ethos, this book is designed to be more than a static archive.

Each selected artist will be invited to contribute one exclusive, original tattoo design. These 100 designs will be reproduced as high-fidelity, non-toxic temporary tattoos and bound within the book.

The result: an archive that doesn’t just preserve culture—but allows readers to wear it.
An interactive object where tattooing moves from page to skin.

Join the Archive

We believe this project will become an important cultural record—for Indian tattooing, for the artists who define it, and for those who believe in skin as a site of storytelling.

If you identify as a woman, trans woman, non-binary, or gender-diverse person and are a practicing professional tattoo artist anywhere in India, we invite you to submit your work and share your story.

All styles are welcome.
Fine-line. Botanical. Surreal. Tribal-inspired. Bold. Minimal. Abstract.
Every voice matters.
